From Goldrain the tour branches off at Krummweg in the direction of Morter. We cross the village of Morter and then turn right at the fire station and continue as far as the Forstschranke. In the shadow of the Nördersberg a forest track ascends steeply to the Morterer Leger. At first the track is well laid out with white marble gravel, but from halfway up it is almost entirely covered with grass and moss. (Be careful on this track if it has rained or if there is surface water). The tour generally heads downhill via pleasant trails to Haslhof. Following a retreat we cross private land and at first follow a trail until reaching the forest track which winds its way over a short Waalweg crossing to Teerstrasse. From here we head swiftly downhill to Göflan and pass via the Vinschger cycle path Via Claudia Augusta to reach the starting point at Goldrain.

MapMap of the tour

The starting point of this classic is Latsch, the main site of the municipality. From the sports pitch we head along the Trimmdich Pfad to the ice stadium before following the signs to the Bierkeller and continuing along the Waalweg to the Plimabrücke bridge at Morter. Directly behind the bridge we follow the course of the river Plima to the sports pitch and via a short asphalt stretch towards the Martelltal valley before reaching the turnoff to Montani. We head past the famous Schloss (castle) Montani; just above it we turn onto a Waalweg leading to the Magrin Böden. From here we start to ascend - it is never steep but stretches all the way to Töbrunn. From Töbrunn the forest track levels out until Latscher Alm. Here the trail ascends once again, draining the remaining muscle power from the legs. Having arrived at the skiing area of Tarscher Alm, the gravelled track winds its way uphill once again to Alm. The return journey is via the valley run of the skiing area, which is not closed off to traffic, so proceed with care. After arriving at the base terminal, we pass the Rodelbahn (toboggan run) before reaching Tarsch. A rapid descent on an asphalt road leads back to the starting point. Tarscher Joch The Tarscher Joch is a stop for many Transalp tours. From Tarscher Alm it is still 600 metres in altitude to the Tarscher Joch, which is covered with many passages where bikes have to be carried.

From the crossroads with the Vinschgauer cycle path at the village square in Goldrain the tour initially leads north over the Adige. After heading down the tunnel and then going left, following the "Schließstand" sign, we cross the Fallerbach and then the town of Vetzan/Vezzano. Above Vetzan/Vezzano we follow the asphalt road which winds its way steeply uphill to the Fallerhof above Goldrain. Then there is a wide forest road which brings us to the manors of Schloss (castle) Goldrain. Via this private road we reach Schloss Annaberg, the last 200 metres of which are at a steep gradient. Behind the castle we head right at the crossroads and cross the Tisserbach. After this we follow the road for approx. 500 metres until we reach a fork in the road, at which point we ascend to the Annaberger Böden. An ascent of medium difficulty leads us back to the suspension bridge and to Schloss Goldrain. We return to the starting point on the cycle path via the Dorfstrasse. MapMap of the tour

The tour starts in Laas at the start of the Lassertal valley (873 metres) On leaving the village we turn right over the bridge to Tarnell. We follow a forest track above the farms until reaching the junction with the Marmorbruchweg path, which is the connecting path between Göflaner and the Laaser Fault. The heavy marble blocks were transported along this path. Having passed the Knappenhaus holiday cottage we reach the quarry, which is currently not in use and is situated at a height of 2,150 metres. We then head downhill along the same path until the last bend below the quarry. At this point a trail leads us to Göflaner Alm (1827) From here we continue downhill along a steep forest track as far as the Köhlplätze (1682). We then turn right and follow the uphill forest track which later feeds into a trail. After approx. 700 metres two small mountain streams cross the trail before reaching Weiskaser Alm. Below the Alm there is a forest track that leads downhill to the Wiebenhof farm and then on to the junction with the feeder road to Außernördersberg. We reach Göflan by using the toboggan run. We then return to the starting point along the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path.

Reschner Alm - Plamort

Altitude metres 1680 m

Resia - Reschner Alm - Military track - Lake Grünsee - Nauders - Kastelalpe - Plamort - Tank traps - Resia
Tour months
June, July, August, September
Info
Uphill twice, downhill twice - technically this is the tour apart from a 100-metre long section where you have to get off and push. An optimal tour for bikers used to trails. We cross the Austrian-Italian border twice, so you will need to have your ID card with you.

This border tour starts in the middle of Resia at the cycle path junction next to the alpine dairy and initially takes us in a westerly direction alongside the lake to the base terminal of the Schöneben gondola ski lift. With a slight uphill gradient we continue onto the asphalt road and follow the sign towards Rojen. After a short downhill at the start of the Rojental valley we head towards Reschner Alm. The gravel military track leads us gently uphill. While passing blossoming fields the beautiful coniferous forest soon releases fantastic views of Lake Resia and the mountain landscape of the Ötztaler Alps on the opposite side. After approx. 550 altitude metres we reach the Reschner Alm at a height of 2,020 metres. Here we stop for a bite to eat before continuing along the trail to the border. Passing by the old barracks we cross the border and now follow the sign "Grünsee". Superb trails are only interrupted as a result of a short passage where we have to push the bikes. We pass the Bergsee (Mountain Lake) and ride downhill along easy trails until the trail brings us out onto the Reschner/Resia Bundesstrasse (main road) just below the Kastelalpe top terminal. We now ride past the top terminal and follow the Via Claudia Augusta for a while. At the foot of the mountain we turn left and now ride up steep gravel tracks which zigzag below the gondola ski lift up to the Kastelalpe. Here we turn right and ride south towards Plamort. We reach the last few kilometres before the border via a nice trail which leads us past tank traps to Plamort. Here it is possible to find bunkers, trenches and other witnesses to World War I everywhere. After having arrived in Plamort, a panoramic view of the Ortlergruppe opens up. A long way below are Lake Resia and Lake Haider, almost giving us a feeling of being on Lake Garda, at least on warm summer days. The departure from the military track to Resia is via a trail that leads us directly to the Eden restaurant. After stopping off here we follow the underpass and return to our starting point.

This panorama can however be topped by sitting on the terrace of the ski-lift bar where the glacier region of the Martelltal valley can be seen. Anyone who hasn't had enough yet can go to Egghöfen. On the way there are a few wine restaurants that serve excellent traditional food. The tour heads back the same way you came from, up until a turning to the Ratschillhöfen. From there we continue to Annaberg on a relatively well-constructed forest track. The Uina Canyon adventure starts in Burgeis. We pass the Marienberg monastery and continue along the asphalted road to Schlinig. We follow the cross-country trail, passing the outer and inner Alm (alpine pasture) in the process. Now we have to push the bikes uphill for 200 altitude metres. After reaching the end of the valley, we ride along a cart road as far as the Sesvenna hut at a height of 2,256 metres. After a break we continue on a level plain to Schlinig pass. After passing the Italian-Switzerland border we reach the Uina Canyon by means of a well-made trail. Please do not overestimate your ability as errors will not be forgiven here. After passing through the canyon the Uina Tal (Uina valley) opens up into the Engadin. We ride on the cycle path alongside the River Inn as far as Scuol. Downhillers should make a detour here to the bike park. From Scuol there is a winding road that leads us up to a height of 1,600 metres. It´s still quite a few kilometres further to Scarl but only 200 altitude metres. From Scarl we continue via various Schweitzer Almen as far as Astras Alm. We pass along further trails to reach a height of 2,200 metres before turning off to Lü in the Val Müstair valley. Back in Italy we go through Laatsch and Schleis before arriving back at our starting point.

Nowhere else is the unobstructed view over the lower part of Vinschgau as beautiful as it is here. Passing along a trail, we reach the Tanaser Strasse from where it´s all downhill until we reach Allitz. Here it is either possible to head downhill towards Laas, or cycle the remaining leg from Allitz to Kortsch until we reach the cycle track near Göflan. Asphalt, gravel, demanding trails

The Eisjöchl is a challenge. For some the challenge lies in cycling to the top of the Jöchl without getting off, for others the challenge is simply reaching the top of the Eisjöchl. This tour can also be undertaken as a 2-day tour, meaning that you have the time to enjoy the mountain scenery of the Texelgruppe nature reserve. The tour starts in Staben / Naturns and heads along an asphalt road into the Schnalstal valley. We turn right towards the Pfossental valley as far as the Vorderkaser farms. From here a forest track winds its way past the Mitterkaser to the Eishof. After a rest or overnight stay a cart track takes us to the end of the valley. The stony path winds its way with a comfortable gradient to just under the Eisjöchl. Just behind the pass is the Stetinerhütte hut. The downhill run to Pfelders is technically demanding and covered in stone chippings. From the Lazinser Alm a forest track leads us as far as Pfelders. We then ride along an asphalted road before reaching St. Leonhard. We then head to the treatment town of Meran/Merano by means of the Passeirer cycle path. A visit to the Kurstadt of Meran/Merano is also a highlight. We head back to Naturns on the cycle path passing by Algund and Töll.

It´s great, exciting, fascinating. This is the remark often made by bikers of all ages; even participants of the Transalp 2002 enjoyed this route. From Resia there are just a few short gradients and few downhill sections, the rest is flat. We then ride through a multitude of landscapes - shaded woods, open meadows, villages and towns (Glurns), apple orchards - before arriving in the cure town of Meran/Merano. Anyone who cycles along the route from Meran/Merano to Resia will certainly find more time to be able to enjoy the beauty sports of the Vinschgau, for others this tour is almost over too quickly.
